The Yobi Innovators, a team that includes seven students from the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District, placed second overall and first in robot design in the FIRST Lego League Autonomous Robot Competition, which was held Saturday, Jan. 25, at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
They competed against other 12 teams in various events, including core values, robot design, project and robot performance. Now, the Yobi Innovators advance to the regional competition, which takes place Feb. 8 at Dutchess Community College.
The team, which is comprised of students from both Golding Middle School and Radez Elementary, includes C-RCSD students Bryce McCann, Joanna McCann, Alana Hardendorf, Griffin Strobeck, Caden Yorks, Willhelm Bittner and William Miller. Also competing with the team is Reese Kochis, from the Middleburgh Central School District.
Yobi stands for Youth Opportunities for Betterment through Innovation. The team, based in Cobleskill, recently presented to the Board of Trustees, inspiring the village to install an electric vehicle charging station to promote sustainable, renewable energy as well as tourism.
