December 11, 2019

C-R HS student Rachel Yorke was the winner of the Schoharie County American Legion Oratorical Contest.

With a speech entitled “Free Speech Hate Speech,” Cobleskill-Richmondville High School student Rachel Yorke was the winner of the Schoharie County American Legion Oratorical Contest.

As winner of the county contest, which was held Saturday, Dec. 7, at Sharon Springs High School, Yorke advances to the next round of competition in January.

Yorke was first in a field of four candidates. Under the contest rules, her 8-to-10 minute oration was delivered without notes or other visual aids.

This marked the third straight year that a C-R High School student won the county-level competition, the aim of which is to develop “knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students,” according to the American Legion website.
