HS Theatre Troupe to present play, Second Class

The Cobleskill-Richmondville High School Theatre Troupe will present Second Class, a play by Brad Slaight, at 7:30 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, at the Cobleskill-Richmondville High School Theatre.

Tickets may be purchased at the door and cost $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Theater-goers who purchase tickets to the Odyssey of the Mind chicken barbeque on May 8 will receive a coupon for $1 off tickets to either performance of Second Class.

Second Class is a series of vignettes which explore some experiences students may face in the halls, before and after school, and hanging out in the parking lot and other places that students might frequent.

"Audience members may not be able to relate to all of the topics the play covers but, by the end of the play, each audience member will almost certainly have identified with a character or two," said director Pam Kostbar-Jarvis.

Some of the topics discussed in the play may not be appropriate for audience members younger than high school age. However, all topics are treated sensitively and the events have positive outcomes, many times with the help of friends.

"The play is the perfect vehicle for high school students," Mrs. Kostbar-Jarvis said. "Since the scenes are not interrelated and each scene requires only one to five actors, the students have been able to explore the emotions of the characters involved in the scenes. It is a great activity for character education. And most of the costumes come from their closets!"

The students who will perform in the play include Amal Babiker, Alex Bagdovitz, Valerie Chandler, Ali Collischonn, Victoria DelCoro, Alanna Fiore, Jamie Hartjen, Austin Karn, Tanner Karn, Brittany Kindt, Emily Kuhn, Sarah Livingston, Kristen Maniscalco, Ashley Myers, Brittany Piccolo, Rebecca Ryan, Skylar Shaw, Stephanie Snyder, Emilee Wells and Erika Woodin.

Questions about the play should be directed to Mrs. Kostbar-Jarvis, who can be reached by calling 234-3565, ext. 1117.
