Learning has never been so sweet

March 13, 2017

Fifth graders recently tapped the maple trees at Radez Elementary with Mr. Putnam of Maple Hill Farms. He is partnering with 5th grade classes and the Radez Library to enter the New York State Agriculture in the Classroom Maple Production contest.

The students will enter the syrup in to the contest to compete against other schools in New York State for the best maple syrup.

“Whether we win or lose, our students are gaining a great hands-on knowledge of how maple products are made. In the library students have been working on an inquiry based learning experience,” said Radez Librarian Laura Gagnon. “Students have read fiction, nonfiction, legends, database articles, and generated research questions that they have been answering throughout the month of March.”

The class will visit Maple Hill Farms in later March and presenting our research at Radez Rally on March 31.

Maple weekend is March 18-19 and March 25-26. There are many great open houses, tours, pancake breakfasts and other opportunities. Click here for more information.
