Community Advisory Regarding Threatening Text Message at High School

January 23, 2015

Last night district officials were alerted to the existence of a threatening text message allegedly sent by a Cobleskill-Richmondville high school student.  Upon review of the text message, district staff determined that the message contained a credible and indirect threat to students and staff at Cobleskill-Richmondville.

We immediately contacted law enforcement officials, who interviewed district staff. The investigation by law enforcement is ongoing.

The student has been suspended and is subject to discipline under our school district’s Code of Conduct.

As a precaution, district officials requested a law enforcement presence at our high school campus this morning.

We are grateful to the individuals who alerted us to this threatening text message.  Likewise, we are appreciative of the prompt and professional response of our state and local law enforcement officials.

In order to maintain the integrity of the ongoing law enforcement investigation, the district cannot provide more detailed information at this time. But we can provide strong assurances that we are working closely with law enforcement officials to ensure a safe school environment.  Our highest priority is always the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident, please call the district office at 234-4032 ext. 2000.
